About a month ago I noticed that my 4 month old Winter had some pretty bad cradle cap. Let me tell you, I have found the remedy.
I’ll first start by saying, no, that baby that you saw with the crazy dandruff is not necessarily deprived or neglected. Some babies just have hormones that cause overstimulated oil glands.
If your baby has this condition, I have a very simple answer for you:
Coconut oil. It is that simple. Let me tell you how I do it:
I start by scraping the flakes free. You can use a soft comb but honestly, I use my nails and it’s become a kind of guilty pleasure of mine. Kind of like watching pimple popper videos only not as gross because it’s your child’s scalp we are talking about here.
Once it’s all flaked up, or as much as you can, I take a fingertip size of coconut oil and melt it in my hand. I rub a small amount over the flakey area and let it sit 10-15 minutes. Make sure you don’t leave the oil on your child’s scalp because it can make it worse by clogging up the pores.
After that 10-15 minutes goes by, scrape gently with the comb again and then suds up their scalp with gentle shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Keep your little one’s scalp open to air as much has possible so limit hats or headbands where they could end up sweating.
I’ve been doing this a couple of times a week for the past couple of weeks and there is already such a big difference!
Cradle cap can be seriously pesky like it was for our first daughter because we didn’t know what to do or where to even start. This is now my go-to method!
