Besides all of the reasons I mentioned a few days ago, I wanted to share yet another exciting reason why I was so MIA. I have been working tirelessly on a faith-based curriculum to begin homeschooling my daughter come this fall. I’m so excited guys.
I considered sending my 3 year old to a local preschool but with a new baby due at the beginning of the school year, being in the middle of a move, and researching prices… I was dead set on doing this at home together! The local Montessori preschool I was considering was over $500 a month and I was like… Yeah, no. I already stay at home with my 3 year old and my 1.5 year old and I’m not about to get a job to pay for preschool and have to be away from them!
The idea of homeschooling has always appealed to me and maybe we’ll do it forever, maybe not. Right now however, I know it’s the best decision for our family. And thus… I began my home school preschool research. Talk about overwhelming and time consuming! I considered purchasing lesson plans for convenience but I couldn’t find anything that really appealed to me. I guess I was being kind of picky as to what I wanted for my girls.
What I wanted…
- I wanted to devote 2 hours to homeschooling, 5 days a week.
- I wanted it to be laid back but structured enough that I could set attainable goals.
- I wanted God’s message to be present in the majority of the lessons.
- I wanted something that required minimal materials/prep.
- I wanted something that included music, crafts, and a corresponding book every day.
- I wanted to take occasional field trips, because let’s be honest, we need to get out of the house.
I couldn’t seem to find exactly what I was looking for so I decided to just create it myself! I googled reliable sources/programs, used Pinterest for craft ideas and the best part… I’m blessed with the most amazing resource, my mom. She retired as a very honorable elementary school teacher this year (just my luck!) so I had her share her expertise with me!
It is a work in progress but I’m crafting a 40 week home school preschool program that is set to run from August 27th, 2018 through May 3st, 2019. If you’d like to follow along or join me, please let me know because I would LOVE to share my lessons and this experience with you!
Just for fun, here is a photo of my adorable little students!
